Charlotte Bronte was born in Thornton, Yorkshire on April 21, 1816 (d. March 31, 1855). She was an English novelist and poet and sometimes used the pen name Currer Bell. Her most notable work is Jane Eyre. After her novel became successful, her publisher encouraged her to reveal her true identity. Charlotte Bronte married Arthur Bell Nicholls in June of 1854. She did become pregnant shortly after her marriage but her health rapidly declined and she died with her unborn child on March 31, 1855.
