Julia Child was born in Pasadena, California on August 15, 1912 (d. August 13, 2004). She was an American chef, author and television personality. She worked for a while at the Office of Strategic Services during WWII after being told that she was too tall to enlist in the Women’s Army Corp or the US Navy’s WAVES program. Her personnel file from that time was declassified and is available online. She went on to have numerous television shows and was the author of several cookbooks.
